Decorate Your Home With Minimal Artwork
Miniature painting and sculpting are unique categories, which focus on miniature art, particularly carving, engraving, and painting. With a rich history that dates back to the early scribes of medieval times, miniature art has grown into a highly respected profession. Many countries across the world have miniature art traditions and collectibles. Most commonly sought after pieces include jewelry, coins, figurines, and decorative furniture.
Miniature artists specialize in depicting subjects in both large scale format and small format, often with subject matter from around the world. Most commonly, miniature artwork pieces are used for decorating walls and floors, but they can also be used for fine art displays and gift packaging. Some individuals collect pieces as a means to add unique artwork to their personal collections, while others collect unique miniatures solely for their aesthetic value.
Miniature artwork is art created specifically for display purposes and is one of a kind. Unlike traditional larger-scale artwork, miniature artwork pieces are often highly detailed, oftentimes featuring actual plants, flowers, insects, and other natural-looking subjects. While many collectors collect miniature pieces solely for their aesthetic value, others love the uniqueness of minuscule life forms. Either way, miniature artwork is a special type of collectible that offers both beauty and rarity.
Many artists use miniature artwork as a medium to display their creative skills. If you’re interested in collecting this type of artwork, there are a number of resources to help you find great pieces to start your collection off with. One great way to locate unique miniature art for your collection is by using the Internet. Miniature artwork can be purchased directly from artisans, or you can purchase reprints or reproductions of existing miniature artwork pieces.
To purchase preprinted art pieces, check out several online stores. You will likely find a large selection of high-quality, custom-made artwork pieces at affordable prices, as well as numerous sizes, colors, shapes, and themes to choose from. Artwork for your miniature collection should include designs that fit your particular lifestyle. For example, if you like to garden, look for pieces that feature lush garden landscapes, birds, and other natural-looking subject matter.
Painting is another option for displaying miniature artwork. One way to create a fine collection of your own is to utilize different mediums such as painting, pencils, watercolors, and mixed media. Some artists specialize in particular mediums, while others have a wide variety of tools to offer collectors. Some fine artists have entire professional portfolios of their work featuring various mediums of expression, including oils, acrylics, watercolors, and colored pencil artwork.
If you’d prefer a more personal collection of miniatures, consider buying small decorative statues, vases, or other collectible items that fit the theme of your miniature artwork collection. Many shops sell decorative figurines in a variety of themes, including religious symbols, animals, and landscape themes. Some stores offer exclusive lines of miniatures by designers such as Jim Shore, who has created a line of animal-inspired art. Shore’s specialty is animals, such as dogs, cats, owls, dragons, and elephants.
Another option for displaying your miniature artwork collection is to purchase ready-made frames that display your artwork in an attractive way. Display cases with doors or interior designs allow you to display your art without taking it out of its protective acrylic case. Many of these displays allow you to rotate and flip through your collection of art easily so that you never have to leave your table. Miniature figurines are available in a variety of sizes and shapes to suit any home decor theme. A number of online retailers sell colored pencils, which can be used for creating minuscule versions of famous paintings or other forms of art.

Two Basic Considerations When Choosing Papercraft Adhesives
Every paper crafter uses glue in some form or another unless you are one of those clever people who can always work without adhesives. I have made some things without the sticky stuff occasionally but I do appreciate being able to use the right product for the job at hand. ‘But wait’, I hear you say, ‘What’s wrong with using one glue for everything?’
Before you buy that one pot or tube of glue, you might like to know a few facts about adhesives.
- Did you know there are archival quality glues that will stand the test of time without yellowing, becoming brittle, or losing their hold?
- Did you know there are prepositional glues that allow you to change your mind about where something belongs on a papercraft project several times?
- Did you know there are thin, dry glues for delicate paper projects and thick, liquid ones for bulkier creations?
There is so much you can get to know about glues!
A division of the ways:
I tend to divide my glues up into archival-quality ones for my important scrapbooking projects (you know the ones I mean – the ones you want to keep forever like your family history album or your baby’s album) and the non-archival quality ones (I use these for things I probably won’t need to keep forever such as some cards, seasonal things I will probably make again the following year, and the like).
Archival quality glue means this adhesive is acid-free and can be used on photographs. I want this type of glue to dry clear and not to wrinkle my papers as well. This means I use a dry adhesive such as:
double-sided tape photo splits glue dots or some other adhesive that is not a liquid and won’t make a mess in my photo albums
You can also get dry dimensional adhesives that are double-sided and will have the effect of raising an element of your page. There are also very strong double-sided adhesives that are photo safe and can be used for hinging pages together, for example, or adding 3-d elements to a page.
What not to use:
You may be tempted to try using glue sticks as they can appear very convenient and not messy. This type of glue is not very strong though and can lump. Remember that glue sticks are not generally photoing safe. (NOTE: They are perfect for things like school projects though as children have little trouble using them and make less mess with them than they do with something like glue in a pot with a brush attached to the lid).
For heavier paper crafting with chipboard or light woods, naturally a stronger glue is needed. In this case, get out your gun!
Of course I mean get out your hot glue gun. Glue guns need some special handling but are not hard to use, so do be sure to check out some safety tips before trying them for the first time.
Specialist glues
Did you know you can make your own stickers with a Xyron machine? Did you know you can decorate with glues? Would you like to know how to make things without adhesives?
Happy PaperCrafting!
